A chaotic scene unfolds in Newark where an 18-year-old boy is rushed to the ER with gunshot wounds to his face. The patient’s mother sobs uncontrollably in the hallway, pleading for doctors to save her son’s life. Lucky for her, the trauma surgeon in charge is Dr. Anne Mosenthal, a stellar surgeon, who herself is a mother of teenage sons. Dr. Mosenthal and the team rush to see exactly where the bullets entered, and determine the seriousness of the boy’s injuries. Meanwhile in Manhattan, an uncooperative older man who is rushed to the Cornell ER after fainting is no match for straight shooting nurse, Marina Dedivanovic and no-nonsense ER attending physician, Alexis Halpern. The man stubbornly insists that the ER team contact his outside doctor before giving him any medications. Dr. Halpern shows some tough love explaining that it is essential that they treat him immediately with antibiotics. With some additional tough love from Marina, the man finally complies.
