Dr. Tiffany Murano is a no-nonsense ER Attending Physician. Patients are often rushed into Newark’s University Hospital without a moment to spare, but she values when she can spend more time with the patients and their families. When an elderly woman suffering from end-stage lung cancer comes in unable to breathe but refusing a breathing tube, the patient’s family struggles to come to terms with the desperate situation. The family's grief hits close to home for Dr. Murano, who lost her own mother to lung cancer just months earlier. She does what she can to make the elderly woman more comfortable, noting that respecting the patient's wishes to not receive intervention is part of her job and that abiding the patient’s instructions is ultimately the kindest thing she and the family can do. On the Upper East Side in Manhattan, a patient is rushed to the ER with her heart pumping at more than twice the normal rate.
