In many ways this 30s swashbuckler is the Star Wars of its day - a hugely enjoyable tale of Good Vs Evil married to pitch-perfect spectacle and humour, that caught audiences' imaginations and became a phenomenal success. Errol Flynn found the perfect role as Robin of Sherwood, giving boo-hiss villains Claude Rains as King John and Basil Rathbone as Sir Guy of Gisbourne the runaround. Luminescent three-strip Technicolor shows off the marvellous sets and costumes, and Casablanca director Michael Curtiz never lets the pace flag. Eight decades on this still dazzles.
