George C Scott makes a memorable Scrooge in Clive Donner's splendid adaptation of Charles Dickens' timeless Christmas yarn. The grand production showcases the best of British, from the recreation of Victorian London to a supporting cast featuring Frank Finlay as Jacob Marley, David Warner and Susannah York as Bob and Mrs Cratchit, with Edward Woodward as the Ghost of Christmas Present and other roles filled by the notable likes of Nigel Davenport, Roger Rees, Joanne Whalley and Michael Gough. Originally made for American television, the film was so well received it was given a big screen release in the UK.
