A strange twist of fate is the prelude to a disaster for piano prodigy Eli (Jesse Eisenberg) in this offbeat comedy drama. On the day of his audition for a prestigious music school, Eli must also check his drug-addict mother Penny (Melissa Leo) into rehab so that she can look after his little sister while he's away. But when Penny's drug test comes up negative, a catch-22 situation arises whereby Eli must get her high to get her back into the program. Naturally, her old dealer (Tracy Morgan) is happy to help. Unfortunately, run-ins with a war re-enactment society and an amorous drug lord ensure the day goes rapidly downhill from there...
