Updated to a contemporary setting and utilising a semi-documentary approach, the film charts the existential crisis and subsequent decline of Dr Ragin (Vladimir Ilyich) from chief psychiatrist of a mental institution to asylum inmate. Co-written and directed by veteran filmmaker Karen Shakhnazarov and selected as Russia's entry for the 2010 Academy Awards, the film explores the fearfully delicate line that separates the sane from the insane.
