Thomas is a middle-aged British reporter in Saigon in 1952. He lives with Phuong, a dancer, but can't marry her as his Catholic wife won't divorce him. When an American doctor falls in love with Phuong, Thomas's love life is put in danger plus he finds out disturbing info about the US's involvement in the conflict.
