The true story of Toni Jo Henry (Jaime King), a woman tried for the crime of murder in 1942 in the state of Louisiana. Toni Jo, a product of childhood abuse and neglect, briefly discovers love and happiness that soon turns to despair when her husband, "Cowboy" (Jason Lewis) is sent to prison for murder. She embarks on an ill-fated plan to free him with an accomplice, "Arkie" (John Hawkes). Their plan to rob a bank goes awry when their search for a getaway car ends in a gruesome murder. The investigation into which of them pulled the trigger becomes the focus of two highly publicised and sensational murder trials that draw unparalleled media attention. Because of her beauty, Toni Jo instantly becomes a notorious celebrity and as a result the Louisiana authorities are determined to pin the murder on her. What follows is one of the most dramatic courtroom stories in US history as Toni Jo suddenly faces death by the electric chair.
