Lord Asbrey of Westender was once a heroic and fearless knight who has mysteriously fallen from grace. Now he is a pale shadow of his former self living in poverty as a reckless drunk. During a night of debauchery he is attacked by brutal slavers and his most prized possession - a ring is stolen. His only hope for redemption in his otherwise bleak existence lies in the prospect of recovering the ring at any cost. Bruised and beaten he pledges to hunt down the thieves.
