In 1944, Veikko, a chained up Finnish sniper, sets himself free. Ivan, a captain of the Soviet Army, is arrested by secret police and has a narrow escape. Anni, a Lapp woman, shelters them on her farm. Despite the language barrier the three of them manage to communicate.
