A Texas town is turned upside down when wild child Bubber jumps prison and heads for Tarl. As the atmosphere hots up the sheriff wants to keep him alive and convinces his faithless wife to get him to surrender. But the local kingpin's fear that he'll kill his son sparks a confrontation that destroys law and order.
