A musical based on the 1899 strike by the newspaper boys against publisher Joseph Pulitzer (Robert Duvall). The 'newsies' get together to create a union to ensure fair wages for themselves after Pulitzer announces a pay cut. Medda (Ann-Magret), a local dancer, helps the boys to protect their rights.
