Jennifer Lawrence reteams with fellow American Hustlers and Silver Linings Playbookers Bradley Cooper and (writer-director) David O. Russell for this offbeat biopic about Joy Mangano, the entrepreneurial young mother who made her fortune as the inventor of... the Miracle Mop. But don't touch that dial, because Russell's depiction of Joy's fights against adversity at home (with dysfunctional dad Robert De Niro and the rest of her family) and on the professional front (with dodgy suppliers and Cooper's teleshopping mogul) turns what sounds like a mundane rags-to-riches story into a work of genuine inspiration. Quality performances and feelgood moments guaranteed.
