'Sumptuous' doesn't begin to describe Milos Forman's Oscar-winning adaptation of Peter Schaffer's stage play about the rivalry between mediocre court composer Antonio Salieri (F Murray Abraham) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce), a man whose genius was matched only by his vulgarity. An intimate tale of human frailty unfolds against a breath-taking backdrop of 18th century sights and sounds. Set in Vienna but largely filmed in Prague, Forman's epic unsurprisingly swept the Academy's production awards as well as best picture and director. And deservedly - if ironically - Salieri was to have the last laugh as Abraham beat Hulce to Best Actor.
